Born amidst war in Iran, to becoming a multi-award winning global businesswoman. Beginning work in the Youth Sector aged 13 whilst not being able to speak English fully, to now being Founder & CEO of InspirEngage International.
Melody Hossaini has reached over 1 million young people in over 100 countries. She is one of the leading youth sector figures in the UK, a government adviser, with an equally strong profile globally. Aged just 13, she became co-founder of UK Youth Parliament, and in 2005 made history becoming the first female to be elected Chair of its Board of Trustees.
In 2009, Melody set up the social enterprise InspirEngage International, with £0 and a hotmail email account but what she had was a clear sense of purpose in people development and community growth. InspirEngage’s central objective is to deliver training and speaking that helps people to do well, by doing good. Melody has designed the infamous ‘InspirEngage Bootcamps’ delivered worldwide with astounding results.
With 18 years experience in youth engagement and skills development, InspirEngage’s programmes are the first of its kind in several parts of the world, from developing new classroom-techniques in the UAE by training teachers and students, to delivering InspirEngage Bootcamps sparking new social entrepreneurs across East Asia Pacific to writing a youth engagement strategy for Philips or leading on embedding social enterprise into the curriculum (through the ‘Social Enterprise Revolution’ programme- which featured in the ‘Enterprise For All’ report by Lord Young in June 2014).
Melody has had the honour of working with 12 nobel peace prize winners, most notably in 2009 receiving training by Archbishop Desmond Tutu on peace implementation in Los Angeles, and in 2009 by former vice-president Al Gore on climate change at Cambridge University. In 2009, her work with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, training young people to work together to create impact across the Commonwealth, even featured on the Queen’s Christmas day speech.
In 2011, Melody beat 75,000 applicants to become a candidate on BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, making history as the first ever (and til this day the only) social entrepreneur to compete on the show- making it to week 10 out of 12 with Lord Sugar describing her as “a woman of exceptional ability”.
Melody’s work and that of InspirEngage International has been recognised with several prestigious awards; Woman of the Future Awards 2008 presented by Princess Zara Aga Khan and Princess Badiya of Jordan, Asian Woman of Achievement Award in 2009 presented by Prince Charles and Volunteer of the Year in 2006 by the Home Office. Most recently in June 2015, Melody was honoured to be awarded ‘New European’s Most Influential Woman’ by the European Parliament, which she accepted in Brussels.
Melody is a proud Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, holds a 2:1 LLB Honours Law degree from Oxford Brookes University, has lived in 4 countries and speaks 5 different languages.
